Here are some more RAK activities we’ve been carrying out as part of our DharmaRAK20 project for Random Acts of Kindness Week:
- Sunflower (our Nursery) wanted to be kind to the birds in the cold weather so put out sunflower seeds for them to eat.
- Mountain class tidied up the nature reserve behind the school and collected five bags of rubbish in a 20 metre area!
- Ocean class held a special puja about RAK Week and watched a video about kindness.
- Susannah (Lotus class teacher) used RAK card 008 and invited an elderly neighbour in for a cup of tea. As he is unable to go out much, she also drove him up to the South Downs to look at the view.
- Uma, a pupil in Year 5 (Lotus class) has begun writing about ‘How to start a RAK’. She is using the example of a guide dog helping its owner across the road.
The week is also an opportunity to reflect on the small acts of kindness that we are the recipients of every day, but which often go unnoticed. Here are a few reflections on gratitude and kindness from staff and pupils:
“Another driver stopped and let my Mum pull out into a busy road which meant we didn’t have to keep waiting at the junction for a long time.”
“Two lovely parents brought in soup and bread for the staff to share at lunchtime – delicious!”
“Charlie my dog got out of his bed and came and jumped up, lay on my lap and licked my hand. I think animals can do random acts of kindness too and they know when you need kindness most.”
