Lotus class (Years 5 & 6) have been writing poems inspired by ‘Cloud Busting’, a children’s novel by Malorie Blackman that is written in verse, with each chapter using a different type of poetry. Pupils wrote poems inspired by the following verse from the book:
“Mr Mackie said,
‘Write a poem
About
Someone near to you,
Dear to you,
A pet,
A family member,
A friend.’

My Mum
My Mum took the pain of my birth,
My Mum is the first person of my life,
My Mum was the first teacher.
She gave me the strength I needed.
My Mum is awesome,
My Mum is cool.
My Mum is cheeky
My Mum is beautiful.
My Mum is to me like the stars are to the sky.
Friends
Friends are there for you even if you can’t see them.
Friends will help you even if they’re busy.
A friend is someone you can count on all through your life.
And that’s a friend.
A friend is a friend since the day you met.
A friend is a friend from beginning to end.
A friend is a person to count on.
A friend is not only someone you like,
But also someone you can trust
And be with while being happy.
A friend should be kind to you,
But only if you’re kind back
And a friend should be happy
if you’re happy with them.
It’s just, with a friend,
You don’t always get along.
I mean, sometimes you fall out
And you will get along again.
There’s not much more to a friend.
It’s just you have to find one!
Lotus haikus
(A haiku is a Japanese verse form with three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables)
Dad
He is dear to me
I enjoy being with him
He is really kind
Mum
She is so loving
She respects stuff that I did
and I love her so
